A simple definition of a wiki is a website that allows collaborative editing of its content and structure by its users.  Probably one of the most well known wikis is wikipedia.  For a simple visual explanation of wikis, please watch this  Commoncraft video.

Wikis are also an effective Web 2.0 tool both to build your PLN and to use with students.  Many sites provide free space for wiki creation and some offer special accounts just for educators.  Some popular ones include:

A wiki can be a great tool to create a document you want several people to contribute to, or when you need an editable creative space. Explore these examples:
