This is a tough one. I have read both Crank and Glass and do agree that both books are better aimed at high school readers. With that being said, however, I totally agree with Hopkins when she said, "'no one person should be able to tell other peopl…

Wow, what an eye-opener! I thought that the Understanding Culture article was full of easy-to-understand definitions of what culture and cultural identity are. When I worked in an urban setting in the middle of downtown Denver, I was surrounded by t…

The Library With The Lead Pipe is one interesting site. The comments are so insightful and the topics often unusual. Stacey - I'm right there with you on the tech issues. I'm struggling like nobody's business with all this new stuff! (:

I feel you my homie! It's getting a little easier, but I still hear that little voice in the back of my head constantly asking "Uh...am I doing this right?" Ok, you're right, I should get back to work! :) Happy Friday!

I too LOVED In The Library With The Lead Pipe - I spent a good hour looking through old posts and whatnot. My only "issue" is that all of the authors are university librarians and I found very little in reference to high school/primary libraries. I…

I loved the Citation Builder - citation has always been a struggle for me. And to be honest...the "Get a Room" option just made me laugh. If I were a college student, I think it would maybe make me more eager to reserve a study room. Ha!

I was so happy to see you choose the University of Illinois Ask a Librarian. My daughter attends the library program there, and has participated in the "Ask a Librarian" feature. I will let her know your positive comment.

Hi Stacey, First I just wanted to let you know that there is a typo in your web address...it is supposed to be lead pipe (not pipes). I had to search a little, but found it. Also, thanks for the really interesting blog! I read through the most recen…

I love the map of which computers are in use at any given moment. What a brilliant idea! I think that idea should be copied by every University. And it even tells you which are macs and which are PCs...I am impressed.

This blog sounds very interesting and, more importantly, useful. I'm also new to the tech game and am excited about all of the cool things that we can do now. But just because I'm excited about it, doesn't mean that I know how to use it! That's exac…

Favorite Virtual Learning Commons

**I had a hard time finding learning commons that were relevant to me. The only ones that I was able to locate were all associated with colleges or universities. However, while searching through these, I did find a couple that seemed to be working very well and that could maybe be used as a model for setting up our own learning commons.

Designing Better Libraries - http://dbl.lishosts.org/blog/

This blog is very easy to navigate through. There are tons of interesting posts that discuss everything one could ever imagine regarding libraries. Plus, the blog is updated very regularly with information that, for the most part, is pretty relevant. My one dislike about the blog is purely aesthetic. I think that the look of the blog is very boring and not too attractive at all.

Finally...

Hi everyone! I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by everything that I'm learning in this first unit. I must admit that my average technology use includes my district email account, and GOOGLE. It is completely mind-boggling to see all of the ways that technology can be used. I'm loving this ning stuff and can really see that it's going to make taking my first online class much easier. After reading some of the other posts, I'm noticing that I'm not alone in feeling overwhelmed, and that knowledge a… Continue
