Reflections on My Secondary Field Experience

This secondary field experience was a very fruitful endeavor! I split my time between two schools in order to meet some personal goals. I spent time at Creighton Middle School mostly observing but also occasionally participating in Instructional Leadership meetings at the school and district level. I spent time at Bell Middle School creating and teaching a collaborative lesson using Adobe Photoshop and…

Availability of Race- Related Books and Books Related to Homosexuality in Jefferson County Public School Libraries

When searching the Jefferson County Database for books on racial identity and relationships, I found 18 of the 25 books (72%) listed in Woolls and Loertscher (2005) available in a district where almost 26% of the population is non-white. 5 (25%) are available at Creighton where the non-white population is about 34%. Since JeffCo has an updated catalog system that allows for interlibrary loans between schools, I think the percentage of books available on racial identity and relationships is… Continue

Since JeffCo has an updated catalog system that allows for interlibrary loans between schools, I think the percentage of books available on racial identity and relationships is fair. In our ever shrinking world, understanding race relationships is becoming more critical. It would benefit all of JeffCo's students to have on-demand access to books addressing these issues.

Of the list of 10 books related to homosexuality, Jefferson County Public Schools has 2 titles available, both at the high school level.
