Secondary Field Experience at Castle View High School

I was so nervous to start my field experience in a high school. I had17 years of experience in elementary and staff development. I couldwork with young children and adults, but I had no idea if I could workwith teenagers.I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed working in a highschool. My supervising librarian, Chris Bell, was awesome. He let meask any questions I needed to and he shared so much of what he doeswith me. His assistant Bev Sullivan was equally as helpful. I learnedso much…See More

Reflection on Multicultural Literature article

The article, Multicultural Literature and Young Adolescents article by Susan M.Landt, really made me think about the books in my school’s library. The part that hit me the most was when she was discussing students identifying with their cultural selves. I never stopped to think about that before. There are plenty of books for the majority of the students in my school, but our Latino and Asian populations are growing. I need to make sure I have enough books for all students to feel that they… Continue

War and Peace

The two viewpoints of teaching history were interesting to me. I don’t think a teacher should use one or the other approach. It needs to be a combination of the two. How can you learn about a subject with only one side presented? Using historical fiction is the best way in my opinion to learn about history. It gives students a jumping off point to learn more about the historic events. I had studied about the Warsaw ghettos, but I didn’t really understand how bad it was until I read, Milkweed by… Continue

Books are a great way to escape the stress of real life. However, I think that any book can be a great escape. It does not just have to be Fantasy or Science Fiction. Those are definitely good escapes, but so is a good realistic fiction book. The characters in the stories have… Continue
