Profile Information

About Me:
Hi, My name is Irwin Faaiu. I recently moved to Colorado from San Antonio, TX about 3 years ago. My dad is retired military so we had the opportunity to move around often. Now he’s retired again from the U.S. Post Office as a Express Mail carrier. I enjoyed being in a military family and I enjoyed all the benefits of paying no tax on base and using the commissary for groceries. I have a beautiful wife, Carmen, and three wonderful children, Cody, Kayla & Isabella. Cody just graduated from high school last week in San Antonio; we're so proud of him. Both our girls are diabetics diagnosed at two and half and three years of age respectively so we’re active in the American Diabetes Association and it’s wonderful to have the leading professionals on children’s diabetes at the Barbara Davis Center, another benefit of moving to Colorado.

My family is from Samoa and my parents are waiting for my youngest sister to finish college to possibly move back. My mom is from American Samoa and my dad is from Western Samoa (now called Samoa) so when my mom married my dad, he became a U.S. citizen, joined the military and we’ve been in the U.S. ever since, with the occasional vacations back to Samoa. My family still live in San Antonio, TX and I was the first to move away from humid San Antonio and it’s wonderful living here in Denver, CO.

I graduated from Robert G. Cole H.S. on Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX where I went to school with Shaquille O’Neal, now with the NBA Phoenix Suns…so that was always a great conversation starter in my classes. I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from St. Mary’s University San Antonio, TX and my Master of Arts in Education (Secondary Education) from the University of Phoenix. Now that I’m going into special education I decided to take the three extra classes for another Master of Arts in Education (Special Education). I’ve taught high school math for five years in San Antonio, TX, one year of middle school math for Denver Public Schools (DPS) and almost two years as a special education teacher in for the state of Colorado. I love working with children and now more so children with disabilities and it’s a joy to see my student experience success. I especially enjoyed seeing them graduate from high school and keep in touch years later. I’m going into my eighth year of teaching and second year as a special education teacher. I look forward to meeting more professionals and learning more about assistive technology and how it can help me provide better and more appropriate services to my students to enable them to be successful.
