Secondary Field Experience- Ken Caryl Middle School

I was surprised how quickly my two weeks went in the library. It is amazing how much one can learn in a time as short as two weeks. I was lucky enough to complete my field experience at my school I teach French in. This was a great opportunity for me because being my first year at Ken Caryl Middle School, I really did not know a lot about the library there at all. Ken Caryl also is Power Library, which was another positive benefit.I jumped right in on Monday, May 3rd and was surprised how…See More

"I looked at the Denver Public Library Catalog, Cherry Creek Schools and Auroria. Obviously for students, I really liked the Cherry Creek Catalog. I loved how it gave tons of reviews (Booklist, SLJ, etc...) for kiddos to read over to really decide if…"

Week 2: 5110 Online

After a busy week two I am pleased to say I am adding more "tricks" to my bag of technology knowledge. After seeing "RSS" on websites and wondering what it was but not exploring it further, I am pleased to say I can explain it in simple terms and am looking forward to adding websites to my reader. My tech knowledge has also been increased in wikis and delicious, and my classmates have sparked excellent conversations on the sometimes difficult topic of the laws of copyright.

Thoughts on Integrating Technology

I started my technology class for my masters this week, integrating technology. Though I am still very new to a lot of the technologies out there, I am very excited to see what this class has in store and what I can take to my future profession as a librarian. I am pleased to say after my first reading for the class that I have many new ideas to put in my "bag of tricks" as a future librarian. We are currently discussing blogs, social bookmarking and the web 2.0 in general. One of my favorite… Continue

Holes- comparison of humor in book and the movie

I was excited to finally read Holes and now understand why I have found so many students with their noses burrowed into this book. And after watching the movie, for the most part, I think it followed the plot and numerous details of the book really well. When thinking about the humor in the book compared to the humor in the movie, I think one has to search a bit more for humor in the book, at least at the beginning. The book starts out a bit bleak, dealing with obesity and bullying. We… Continue

Chapter three- Materials

Chapter three from The Whole School Library Handbook started out with five goals for a school library media specialist. I liked how it focused the chapter from the start. It would be helpful to look at these five goals before reading each chapter in the book.

I thought the excerpt on evaluating your library media center collection was very helpful in that it broke down each possible part of a collection and how to correctly choose the right resources for your school.… Continue
