Elementary Field Experience Reflections

Carrie Doss Aylor Elementary Field Experience Riverdale Elementary School, Adams 12 • What in particular did you like? I especially liked working with the students. As a classroom teacher I feel like I get to enjoy my students, but I also have to be the disciplinarian, coach, and motivator. Working in the library was fun because I still had fun interactions with students without the stress of the behavior side of teaching. While I know there will be times as a TL that I still am a…See More

"You have some great ideas.  I like the "book bin". Helping kids build their own collection of books at home is a powerful tool for literacy.  I hope you follow through on the collaboration with the public library, high school and…"

"Sorry...I'm not sure what is going on with the spacing craziness. I typed up my responses and then tried to copy and paste them into the discussion (three different times). Somehow I managed to make it a mess, but the ideas are there!"

Profile Information

About Me:
My hometown is Jackson, TN, but I moved around a lot as an Air Force military brat. My husband and I moved to Colorado 3 years ago so he could go to school at Mines. After three years of teaching high school English in Jackson, I now teach 7th grade language arts at Thornton Middle School.
Hobbies
In my free time I enjoy running, working out, reading (anything and everything), and playing with my dogs. My husband and I do not yet have kids so our pups are our babies now. When I can I also volunteer for the Colorado Pit Bull Rescue as a foster parent. I am currently training for the Denver Half Marathon next October; this will be my 3rd half marathon...I am hoping to beat my personal best of 2:09. I am also interested in training for a sprint triathlon (with the encouragement from my husband). When I have the time and money I also enjoy traveling; my mom, sister, and I are currently planning our 2011 spring break trip to Italy and Greece.
Current position and employment location
7th grade language arts teacher at Thornton Middle School, Adams 12 Five Star Schools in Thornton, CO.
Favorite Book:
How could I possibly pick just one...
Favorite Library:
Middle Tennessee State University Library...Go Big Blue!
What professional development topics are you interested in learning more about?
I would love to begin developing ideas about how to collaborate more with my school librarian and fellow colleagues in various departments. My school pushes collaboration, and I feel confident within my language arts department, but I would love to work with a wider variety of departments as well.
