About Me:
I am a Colorado native who is interested in making Colorado the best possible place for its residents. I believe that the way to do this is through education and political action. I spent many years as a teacher and librarian in the Denver Public Schools. I now split my time between teaching in the School Library Program at the University of Colorado Denver and as the Director of Library Services for the Denver Public Schools.

Libraries and English Language Learners

I recently read a fascinating study on the needs of adolescent English Language Learners (ELL).

It is an extensive study of techniques for improving the achievement of ELL students. It appears to me that there are important implications for school librarians. We engage students in higher order think that is essential. Library projects meet many of the needs identified in this study for engaging ELL students. See following quote
