My favorite IL lesson was prepared for higher level students, but I think would work well for younger ones as well. I thought this would be perfect for 4th/5th grade students to teach them that they can't believe everything they see.

Brooke,
A great site for science classes! Your evaluation rubric is very complete and would guide students through the process of evaluating the reliability and validity of these web sites!

My favorite lesson is a website evaluation lesson complete with evaluation questions and a rubric. The first time we did this lesson, we did it on April Fools with a science class on the website www.DHMO.org. Here's the rubric: Website Evaluation Rubric.pdf

Chris,
A very complete web evaluation and research guide. I'm sure it serves as a great foundation for any research project.

Here is my favorite lesson. Attached is a document they use in the Warsaw for a similar lesson. Why Did You Choose That Web Site-revised.doc Information Lesson.docx

Lynne,
Did the competition engage the students to create a bibliography? If so, it's a great idea to motivate students to cite their sources!

I created this Power Point on writing a bibliography. Resources were available for students to create a citation for each example as we progressed through the slide show. An added activity that I prepared but never tried with a class was enlarging a citatation for each student and cutting it into pieces. Each student had to put their pieces in the correct format (order) and add them to their table members pieces to create a complete bibliography. First table finished correctly wins. Below is a lesson to use with students on the nuts and bolts of the Big6.

Holly,
Thanks for sharing two great sites that offer fun learning activities for students that address information standards.

Below is a lesson about newspapers. Kinders and first graders are able to understand more than sometimes even I, as a first grade teacher, realize! They are young, but if we can bring one of the library resources to an appropriate instructional level and relate it to their own lives, they will get it! http://www2.scholastic.com/browse/article.jsp?id=4095&FullBread...

Also, I am not sure if anyone else posted this site, but it has some good (and some basic, so you have to look through them) lessons for TLs to work with students on information literacy. The documents are in both Word and as a PDF: http://hcps2.hanover.k12.va.us/instruction/media/LessonPlanBook.htm

Here is one more I am posting- one of my supervising librarians did the 5-finger rule when locating a book and I thought it was great. After observing several checkout sessions with elementary students, I saw how difficult the "right book" is for kiddos. They need a "rule of thumb" (or all five fingers!) to help them. This site shows this idea online, a little different than how she did it (and more wordy), but still good to check out: http://www.booknutsreadingclub.com/fivefingertest.html
